Testimonials

Over the years, thousands of people have turned in from Lincoln Drive to the Franciscan Renewal Center. They have come for a variety of reasons: counseling, liturgy, solitude, prayer, meetings, retreats, rest and education. After each program - whether a retreat, seminar, workshop or class - all participants are asked to evaluate the program they just attended. We would like to share with you some of those reviews and evaluations.

Other Testimonials

In 1949 my father, Chuck Klees, was discharged from the Navy and moved to Phoenix where he had several friends who he had grown up from Chicago.  He was a devout Catholic and had attended Catholic schools in Chicago.  He went into business with a friend who had a construction company.  He also spent a great deal of time at the Knights of Columbus in downtown Phoenix.  During this period, he met Fr. Owen.

Father was planning the property on Lincoln Drive and many people in town thought he was crazy to build way out in the middle of no-where.  Dad helped him build some of the original buildings on the property.  But in particular, his favorite memory was of erecting the shrine to Our Lady of Guadalupe.  Dad supervised the job and had workers from his company come out to help.  The crane operator just barely missed the electrical wires when bringing some of the materials, which Dad said was a good thing, because it would have knocked out the power to Paradise Valley!

My parents met in 1950 and married at St. Gregory’s Church in 1951.  My mother went to St. Mary’s High School and had Fr. Owen for Theology.

The Franciscans have always been an important part of my family’s history in Phoenix.  My great grandparents were founding members of St. Mary’s Church and helped build the grammar and high schools.  My grandmother and her brothers and sisters, as well as my mother and her sisters and brother all attended the schools.  My grandparents were married and had their funerals at St. Mary’s.

Later in his life, my father would often leave mass while we were at the Casa, and sit out in front of the shrine.  It gave him comfort to think of all the good memories.
