The intention of this workshop is to provide the foundation for participants to develop a personal practice of Centering Prayer as a practice that leads to contemplation. In this workshop, participants will learn the basic elements for sitting in silence and have several opportunities for practice. Content includes background on this form of prayer in the Christian tradition and a discussion of how contemplative prayer practice leads to spiritual awareness. There is also time for discussion and feedback.

Carole Whittaker, PhD, earned her Doctorate in Chemistry from UCLA. She is engaged in supporting adult spiritual growth through teaching and program development. She has taught classes at the Franciscan Renewal Center in Christian spirituality, contemplative prayer and personal development.
Sharon Taszarek is a spiritual director and teacher trained through the Arizona Ecumenical Institute for Spiritual Direction. She works in the Programs Department at the Franciscan Renewal Center.
