Parents have the right and responsibility to be intimately involved in the faith formation of their children, including preparation for sacraments. Our Lady of the Angels offers specialized programs to help you, as parents or guardians, prepare your children for full initiation into the Church.

The sacramental preparation programs are modeled after the family catechesis process. Parents will have the opportunity to work with their children at home, gather regularly as a group and participate in Sunday Mass. Also offered are workshops, retreats and catechesis for both parents and children.

The Sacrament of First Reconciliation

• Children in grades 2 and above can enroll
• Pre-requisite for Confirmation/First Communion
• Monthly family meetings Sunday mornings
• Home study workbook
• Regular attendance and completion of workbook is required
• Co-enrollment with Family Catechesis required
• Begins Sep. 12, 2010
• First Reconciliation celebrated on Dec. 11, 2010

Confirmation and First Communion

• Children in grades 3 and above
• Completion of First Reconciliation
• Confirmation and Eucharist celebrated at the same Mass
• Family meetings (Sunday mornings)
• Student classes (Sunday mornings)
• Home study workbook
• Co-enrollment with Family Catechesis required
• Begins Jan. 9, 2011
• Regular attendance and completion of workbook is required
• Celebration of Confirmation/Eucharist in spring 2011

Confirmation for Older Students

• Any middle or high school student who has not completed Confirmation
• Completion of Reconciliation and First Communion required
• Seven sessions held on Wednesday evenings
• Begins Jan. 19, 2011
• Confirmation celebrated in the spring of 2011
• Parent participation
• Attend either the fall 2010 or spring 2011 youth retreat
• Concurrent participation in youth ministry is recommended

RCIA for Children

Baptism and Initiation Preparation for children aged 7 and up

• Any child that is age 7 or above who has not been baptized
• Based on the adult RCIA initiation model
• Sunday morning meetings beginning on Sept. 12, 2010
• Participation in Mass and dismissals
• Family and student sessions
• Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist celebrated at the Easter Vigil

Registration for all Sacrament Preparation classes begins on Aug. 1, 2011
